What is design?
Design means only the features of shape, configuration, pattern,
ornament or composition of lines or colours applied to any article, by
any industrial process or means, whether manual, mechanical or
chemical, which in the finished article appeal to and are judged solely
by the eyes, and does not include any artistic work such as a painting,
a sculpture, a drawing an engraving or a photograph as defined in
section 2 of Copyright Act, 1957.
Design protects novel non-functional features of shape, configuration, pattern, ornamentation or composition of lines or colours, applied to any article either two or three dimensional or in both forms by any industrial process or means whether manual, mechanical or chemical, separate or combined which in the finished articles appeals to and is judged solely by the eye. This registration has a specific term of 10 years and renewable for another term of 5 years.
