IIPRD, along with Khurana & Khurana, Advocates and IP Attorneys (K&K) and its eminent foreign associates, conducted Third edition of International Patent Drafting Competition (IPDC). IPDC was designed with an objective to test acumen and skill set of various practitioners pertaining to patent drafting that forms a critical part in patent lifecycle. IPDC aims to encourage people in gaining professional expertise in the field of patent drafting and identify and honor distinguished patent drafters.
IPDC 2017 commenced on 01st August 2017, with IIPRD and K&K disclosing three invention disclosures (describing three inventions), one each in the domain of Electronics/Hi-Tech/Software, Mechanical, and Chemistry/Pharmaceuticals on their website. Up to 20th August 2017, the participants could submit complete patent applications/specifications (along with Drawings, if any).
We witnessed a tremendous response with 177 participants from various sectors including law firms, companies, institutes and independent professionals, among others. 91 patent specifications were received in the domain of Chemistry/Pharmaceuticals, 52 in the domain of Electronics/Hi-Tech/Software, and 34 in the domain of Mechanical.
Collectively, representatives from each International Law Firm and Khurana & Khurana, IP Attorneys, coordinated by IIPRD, followed a rigorous evaluation process based on numerous factors including scope covered through embodiments, structuring of claims, flow of specification, coverage of technical aspects, etc. to analyze each application.
After a thorough evaluation, following were identified as awardees of and Prize in categories:
