Sundar Subramanyam

Sundar is an accomplished patent attorney with over 25 years of combined in-house and law firm experience in intellectual property portfolio development, patent litigation and patent strategy in the pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, medical device, high tech and material science areas. Sundar focuses his practice on all aspects of intellectual property, and advises clients on IP strategy, U.S. and International patent prosecution, portfolio development, patent infringement and litigation risk assessment and on patent validity challenges in PTAB procedures at the USPTO.
Prior to starting his own law practice recently, Sundar was IP Counsel and Senior IP Attorney at Goodwin Procter LLP in Boston for over 15 years, where he represented clients ranging from startups to large established entities and major academic institutions in matters involving IP due diligence, patent validity, freedom to operate and infringement opinions, technology assessment, patent and prosecution strategy development and patent life cycle management. He has represented several large pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, including Teva Pharmaceuticals, Cephalon Pharmaceuticals, Fresenius Kabi, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and AMAG Pharmaceuticals, in complex patent cases in U.S. District Court ANDA litigation and PTAB proceedings at the USPTO.
Sundar previously worked as an R&D scientist in a start-up biotech company in the Boston area, and is the co-inventor in several U.S. and international patents for the company’s proprietary infection resistant coatings for medical devices and healthcare products. As in-house Senior Intellectual Property Manager at the company for over five years, he worked with the outside patent counsel to prosecute the company’s patents IP portfolio development and due diligence, that resulted in a multi-million dollar acquisition.
Sundar earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Kent State University, Ohio and his Juris Doctorate (JD) from Suffolk University Law School in Boston. He is a Registered Patent Attorney licensed to practice in Massachusetts and the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Bar Association and South Asian Bar Association.
